Sudesh Berry On Respecting Parents, Outrage Culture And Why Action Beats Complaining

"Stand up. Show what you are capable of. Who in the world is stopping you?"

On the Accompany Akki podcast, veteran actor Sudesh Berry spoke with host Akash Kumar in his trademark unfiltered style. Beyond the fiery moments, a few ideas stood out that are worth reflecting on.

The video that went viral: washing his mother's feet

In 2024, a video of Sudesh Berry washing his mother's feet went viral. When Akash asked him about it, he said every person should honour their mother this way.

He also said it was something that happened through him rather than something he planned. "I didn't do it. It happened through me," he said, crediting Mahadev.

In a time when parents are often taken for granted, his gesture struck a chord with many people.

Abusing others for likes

Sudesh Berry was sharply critical of a trend he sees on social media: young people insulting public figures simply to grow their audience.

In his view, many believe that the more they abuse someone, the more likes they'll get, the more their income will grow, and then they can sit at home and relax. He mocked that mindset as "I am sleeping and the money is rising."

His point: outrage might bring attention, but it doesn't build anything lasting.

What really causes conflict

Talking about wars and conflict, he said the two biggest triggers are religion and land.

Religion, he believes, is often the main one, driven by the mindset that "only we are right, and everyone else is lesser." Land and geography come next.

It's an old observation, but one worth remembering at a time when identity-based conflicts dominate headlines.

He has also avoided the news for decades

Sudesh Berry said he hasn't watched the news in about 30 years. He doesn't follow how many missiles one country fired at another. He prefers to stay away from the noise.

Stop complaining, start doing

When the conversation turned to people complaining that the rich get richer and the poor get poorer, his response was blunt: show what you can do.

"Start a startup. Show your capability. At least stand up," he said. In his view, people spend too much time talking and too little time acting. Create your own energy and move forward.

Whether or not you agree with everything he says, the core message is familiar to anyone building a career: complaining changes nothing, effort does.

Curses don't build anything

He also shared a line he has repeated before: no family, society or country runs on curses. Negativity and ill wishes don't create progress.

Key takeaways

• Honour your parents while you can.
• Insulting others for likes may bring attention, but not value.
• Religion and land remain the biggest triggers of conflict.
• Stepping away from constant news can protect your peace.
• Action beats complaining.
• Curses and negativity don't build families, societies or nations.
